Would you believe this statement?
Well, only those who suffer from some form of diseases would disagree with it. A healthy diet is the most important aspect to a happy life. For growth and to maintain a healthy body, exercise and healthy diets are the two main factors. Obesity increases the risk of diabetes, heart attack, blindness, stroke, breathing problems, arthritis, osteoarthritis and the long list of health related problems.
Many experts would have advocated that a balanced diet is the path to health and wealth. In the light of great food taste buds that each has, temptations to eat is irresistible. By the term wealth, if a person has good health, it means he/she has to spend less on treatments; thereby increasing his/her wealth. Obesity is a worldwide problem and is faced my millions of people particularly in the United States. One fifth of the population of US adults is overweight and this is further aggravated by the lack of adequate exercise which due to modern day lifestyle is indeed lacking. Taking right type of foods alone is insufficient towards maintaining a good health. It has to be a blend in both; each needing the other.
So what exactly is a healthy diet? It is not just eating the right diet alone that matters. Eating excessively has proven to be detrimental to our health. There is a need to be discipled in the way we eat. Eat when necessary to enable our digestive system have the time to breakdown in time for absorption and a time to have a “time-out”. Taking healthy food timely is another aspect we should not ignore at all.

Hi
Today I would like to touch on healthy eating which incorporates the basics of carbohydrates, protein and fats.
Despite certain hypes on fad diets, every healthy diet needs a balance of carbohydrates, protein, fats, fiber and vitamins to sustain a healthy body. Exactly what constitutes sufficient amount of intake to keep our body going? So what do you understand much about carbohydrates, proteins, fats and so on and so forth? A good understanding on dietary guidelines is the initial step towards developing your own healthy eating plan.
- Carbohydrates
These are food comprised of a combination of starches, sugar and fiber which, provide through its breakdown process, the energy needed by the body for physical activity. The breaking down results in glucose which is a smaller molecule of sugar our cells use as a universal energy source.
- Fiber
Fiber is a special kind of the carbohydrate derivable from plants or plant-based produce that is indigestible by your body. A fiber-rich diet consisting of whole grains, veggies, beans, whole grain breads, high fiber breakfast cereals and fruits is able to lower the risk of diabetes, heart disease and digestive problems like constipation and bowel irregularity. Apart from being able to lower cholesterol and triglycerides levels in the blood, it helps support a healthy diet by preventing further food consumption and over-eating as it fills the tummy fuller and last longer within the digestive system.

Hi, welcome back.
I was just wondering over lunch today what shall I eat as I was a bit lethargic after last night’s long hours working on my computer. But hold on……….. I just remembered that I should always stick on to my professed food regime. That brings me back to my sense to perhaps share with all my readers that one and only one I had been adopting over the many years back (but of course with some latest modifications) which is based entirely on the very basic diet pyramid. Here it goes!!
The days of the four basic food groups comprising of fruits, vegetables, meat and diary are over. Modern day health diet includes a wider variety of foods which is beyond these four groups and now would include seeds, whole grains, nuts, fish and even oils.
Cultural, religious and personal preferences may add more to the existing food diets but the basic healthy food diet would not vary much. Any healthy diet plan can be presented as a pyramid. Pyramid summarizes different groups of foods that form the basics of a healthy diet and it helps you to have a choice of the right food to consume to maintain a healthy life. However, as a guide to enable you to choose foods that suits your requirements right, you should have mix of every category of food to sustain a healthy body.
If you look into any food pyramid that you can lay your hands on, no matter what type of food pyramid they may be, they are in the following 7 major categories:-
- whole grains
- vegetables
- fruits
- nuts & seeds
- beans & legumes
- low fat diary
- meat
